The Festival's Composer in Residence is an important position within the Festival. Their role is to encourage new generations to take the career of composer as a viable and rewarding one. This can be done in various ways such as nurturing new talent, giving industry advice, introducing younger composers to more experienced colleagues and organisations, personal mentoring, etc.. Paul Lewis has written a specially commissioned work to be presented at the Festival dedicated to the RNLI, the Festival's charity in 2022.
